Lighting

 Lighting plays a crucial role in filmmaking and photography - it creates the mood and tone of the scene. Some significant lighting techniques are key lighting, which is used to create light mood (high-key lighting), a lighting technique which is bright and even; and backlighting, which creates silhouettes or halos. Some other techniques used to capture portraits are Rembrandt Lighting, where a moody triangular patch of light is placed on the subject's face; Side Lighting, which highlights texture using strong contrasts; and Spotlighting, where light is directed onto the subject to draw focus. With control of how the scene should be interpreted, filmmakers can achieve desired outcomes and goals in the story they set out to tell.
